Harmonious Logo with Iconic Number for 10HOTELS
INTRODUCTION
Travel is one of life's true joys. However, with the multitude of options available, finding the perfect accommodation can feel like the proverbial needle in a haystack. This is where the meticulously curated rankings of 10HOTELS come into play – your reliable compass to the 10 best hotels, resorts, and lodges at any destination, curated by a team of travel enthusiasts and hotel connoisseurs.
The 10HOTELS team, which develops everything from rankings to web design in-house, reached its limits when it came to logo design. Therefore, Thomas, the founder, turned to me for support. The logo needed to carry forward the design of the website, incorporate the number '10' as a wordmark, and convey an elegant, luxurious, and yet relaxed impression.
RESULT
A major challenge was the design of the number '10'. It needed to harmoniously integrate into the '10HOTELS' wordmark while also functioning as a distinctive standalone icon. Legibility was our top priority. On one hand, the '10' couldn't be too elaborate, as that would make it unreadable and too disconnected from the wordmark. On the other hand, it shouldn't be too generic, or it would appear too inconspicuous when standing alone. Additionally, the digits '1' and '0' are inherently quite plain and unremarkable, making it challenging to create a striking logo.
With a good dose of competitive spirit, we tackled this problem. It quickly became clear that the solution lay in a creative combination of '1' and '0', as both digits appeared too generic when considered individually. This led to the idea of establishing a connection between the numbers. After extensive work, we found the solution: the connection didn't have to be visual, but rather conceptual. A part of the '0' was used to form the '1'. The result is a '10' that integrates perfectly into the wordmark while standing out through its elegant and unique design, allowing it to also hold its own when presented independently.
